The Business Case for Predictive Maintenance

CAN THE MAINTENANCE COSTS OF A 50-METER SUPERYACHT BE REDUCED BY 10%, USING PREDICTIVE MAINTENANCE? Hint: Yes, it can be reduced by even 40%

Noventum, in alliance with a research team from TU Delft investigated whether a predictive maintenance model can reduce the maintenance costs of a 50-metre yacht by at least 10%. The cost of a ship is not just the purchase price, but also the maintenance costs during its lifespan and the impact of potential downtime.

Let’s say a ship has a life cycle of 20 years, then that ship brings twenty years of maintenance costs, that are a significant part of the life cycle cost. In addition, a yacht is needed during specific time periods and breaking down or not working perfectly can be very frustrating. A solution to reduce the costs and avoid unpleasant situations, may be offered from a predictive maintenance model.
